Stepping Stones Network

Position Title: Program Lead, Childcare & Development
Organization Type: Faith-Based, Not-for-Profit
Position Type: Full-Time
Reports to: Assistant Director of Childcare & Development
Compensation/Hours: Paid Internship, Monday-Friday 8 am-4:30 pm
Location/Travel Requirements: Near Grayslake, IL / Local driving within the region

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required and/or currently earning a degree from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood. Minimum one year experience required in any of the following areas: childcare, facilitation of play and creative activities, working with early childhood development, and/or educational or recreational experience with children.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the childcare provider with support from an Assistant Director of Client Services and/or childcare volunteers as assigned. Most children will be 0 to 9 years of age.
  • Responsible for health and safety, daily care of equipment, property, play program materials, and play settings, including but not limited to, daily set-up, clean-up, inventory, and proper use of all equipment and property.
  • Assistance with lesson planning.
  • This description summarizes the primary duties and functions of this position, but should not be considered a complete list of every duty the candidate may ever be called upon to perform. Candidate must be able to learn effective play facilitation skills. Must be able to work in outdoor and indoor settings.

Candidate is expected to incorporate knowledge of the organization’s mission, vision, and values into daily operations and job responsibilities. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Provide three professional references (two professional and one personal) that attest to the applicant’s ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • No credible evidence of physical abuse, neglect, sexual exploitation, or negligent misconduct toward any individual.

  • No credible evidence of substance abuse, and willing to submit to a drug test upon request.
  • Completion of satisfactory criminal background check and SSN non-disclosure agreements.
  • Good driving record.
  • Valid driver’s license required. Illinois residents must possess a valid Illinois license Valid out-of-state license required for out-of-state residents.
  • Maintain any professional credentials and complete all required trainings, including CPR/FirstAid.
  • Participate in professional supervision as recommended.
  • Documentation of a health exam, from a licensed physician or other licensed healthcare professional, within thirty (30) days of being contracted. Exam must be sufficient in scope to identify conditions that may place residents at risk of infection, injury, or improper care.
  • Basic computer literacy required (Office software packages and Google Drive).
  • Creative skills and abilities or other relevant skills that could be applied to play experiences preferred.

Ability To

  • Keep children within sight and sound supervision at all times.
  • Change children’s diapers and/or assist in potty training (when necessary).
  • Handle crisis situations, including assisting in evacuating the building during emergencies; and.
  • Comply in all respects with all applicable laws and regulations relating to childcare.
  • Communicate effectively with children. Solid interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Integrate the core values of SSN.
  • Serve clients of all belief systems, faiths and races without discriminating.
  • Represent SSN in a positive way at community and collaborative events.
  • Abide by organization policies and procedures.

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

COVID-19 considerations:
All new staff and adult clients will be tested for COVID. No one who also works in a hospital setting or high-risk setting will be hired or put on shift at this time.
